Denton Texas

Denton is a city in Texas within the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. In its center, the striking Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum explores local history. Nearby, the Bayless-Selby House Museum is a grand Queen Anne–style home with Victorian interiors. Outdoor sculptures dot the University of North Texas campus. Southeast, huge Lewisville Lake is ringed by parks and marinas, and full of bass and catfish.

There are many ways for contractors to make mistakes in roofing installations.

What can a homeowner do to find the best value for their home?

The first step is to choose the right contractor. Restoration Roofing TX has been approved by several insurance companies. Texas does not have a state licensing agency for roofing. A reference from a satisfied customer is not going to be given by any contractor. Here are some tips:

  • The Better Business Bureau will tell you the length of time the company has been in business.
  • You can check the records with the Sherriff’s Department or the clerk of the county in which the company is located. This will tell you if any of its principles or officers have been involved in court cases.
  • If a company claims they have been incorporated, check with the State Comptroller of Public Accounts. This can help you determine if the state is in good standing.

It is equally important to choose the right system. It doesn’t matter if you buy a 20-year, 30-year, or Lifetime shingle. The manufacturer will not warrant it against defects for the specified time. Hail storms are a common threat to roofs in Texas. Manufacturers usually prorate their warranty coverage after 3-10 years. This does not cover all costs associated with replacing the roof. How do you find the right roof for you? Take into account where you live… Are there strong winds? Are you a victim of hailstorms more than once in the last few years? What length of time will your home last?

The majority of the homes in the United States have a fiberglass/composition/asphalt shingle as their primary roof covering. These shingles are available in 20-year or 25-year 3-tabs. These shingles can only withstand winds up to 60 mph. After the first spring storm, two shingles are likely to fall off your roof. The contractor may charge a fee for repairs. You could have purchased a stronger, 30-year laminated roofing shingle to replace the few missing shingles. These shingles usually come with a standard wind warranty of 70 to 80 mph from the manufacturer. Depending on the shingle/manufacturer, with a few additional installation procedures, you can increase the wind warranty from 110 to even 130 mph.

An “Impact Resistant” Shingle may be a good option if you have been through multiple hailstorms. Impact-resistant shingles that have the Class IV/UL 2218 rating may be eligible for a discount on homeowner’s insurance premiums.

You might consider the warranty on labor and product upgrades if you plan to live in your home for many more years. Most manufacturers require an approved roofing contractor to install additional products and follow additional installation procedures. A manufacturer’s warranty upgrade can offer 20+ years of non-prorated protection and all labor and materials to replace a manufacturing defect. Some manufacturers offer workmanship warranties through their contractors.

Standard workmanship warranties for roofing are 2 years. Although some roofing companies offer warranties of 5 or 10 years, these haven’t been around for very long. Restoration Roofing TX can provide warranties backed by shingle manufacturers that cover labor or materials for as long as 20 years, up to a lifetime warranty depending on which manufacturer. Be aware that contractors may endanger your warranty by improperly placing nails or removing attic ventilation.
